Merlin J. Wylt c. August 1, 2000 - June 16, 2014

Merlin's mom here.

After battling a raging bacterial infection for two weeks, Merlin had to be put to sleep yesterday morning. He started having trouble breathing late on Sunday night and x-rays taken the next morning revealed that his lungs were filled with fluid. We aren't sure exactly how he contracted the infection, why the antibiotics didn't work and why his lungs failed. It could have been an antibiotic resistant infection, there may have been a previously undetected  underlying condition such as lung cancer, his creeping paralysis could have finally hit his diaphragm, or he may have just been too old to fight off the infection without organ failure occurring.

He will be missed.

I am so, so sorry to read this news. We met Merlin years ago at Dog Scout Camp. Our dog, Jade, looks like his twin. I've followed Merlin's blog ever since then, and have enjoyed watching his adventures, and in recent years, sharing in his aging as our Jade also entered his geriatric years. I'm going to really, really miss reading about your hikes. He was a very special dog. Condolences to you at this sad time.

My heart dropped when I read your title. I am so very very sorry. I could tell from your posts how deeply you loved Merlin and he loved you. I will always visualize the two of you out hiking together, with him sometimes hopping in or out of his stroller. You were so very good to him, and I know that your love was completely reciprocated. May your boy rest in peace after a long and love-filled life.

Merlin most certainly will be missed. He left footprints on a lot of hearts.

I know Merlin liked to choose his colors when he painted, so I am going to watch the next rainbow carefully to see if Merlin has painted the Rainbow Bridge in different colors.

Just wanted to touch base and let you know you are in my thoughts.

I know Merlin filled your heart and home with his larger-than-life personality.

Hope you are doing well and healing!
